Say NO to Trump's Illegal War with Venezuela!

Join Indivisible in urgently making calls to the Senate to reject Trump’s escalations in Venezuela.

On the night of January 2, Trump launched an attack that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Maduro. Now Trump has declared that the U.S. will “run” Venezuela and control oil production until a transition of power can take place. He is disregarding national sovereignty and forcing regime change, all without authorization from Congress and without citing evidence of a legitimate threat to the United States.

We need fast, meaningful outreach to Congress to prevent Trump’s continued power grab, escalating violence in the region, and putting US service members and civilians in danger unnecessarily. Congress must check this regime’s lawless violence, or there’s no telling where this will end. The Constitution states clearly that war powers belong to Congress—not the White House. Congress can immediately pass a War Powers Resolution that would mandate a halt to Trump’s military operations–and it’s important they act fast.

Digital Security Recommendations

Digital Security Recommendations

The Working Group on “Digital Security” recommends that people begin to take sensible precautions with their digital use. This includes computers, tablets and cell phones. Specifically, we suggest you review the Security Essentials found on the website “Digital Security Checklists for Activists.” This website has a series of checklists for activists. These checklists are quite thorough and can be a bit daunting. However, in our current environment, it is important to begin implementing many of these suggestions.

Quoted from Security Essentials: “Every click, message, and location ping creates a digital trail that can be used against activists and organizers. Law enforcement regularly demands data from tech companies to identify and surveil people working for social change."

This guide helps you minimize your digital trail. These steps won't make you invisible, but they'll make it substantially harder for authorities to:

Let your Illinois legislators know how you feel about a bill

Let your Illinois legislators know how you feel about a bill

Over the next six or seven weeks, Illinoisan’s inboxes and social media feeds will be full of requests to fill out Witness Slips in support of, or in opposition to, legislative proposals.

What are they? Should I do them?

Witness slips are part of the legislative process in Illinois, and today, they are often used as tools for organizations to engage advocates in the legislative advocacy process. They come into play as bills are debated and voted upon in substantive committees.

Back in the day, witness slips were actual half-sheet size transfer paper in triplicate that lobbyists and others in the Illinois statehouse would fill out and submit prior to committee hearings to express their position on a specific bill.

The clerk who was staffing that hearing would read out the slips when the bill was called to be debated, listing all of the opponents and proponents. This was an easy shorthand for legislators to determine who they would be pleasing, or displeasing, with their vote.

By design, slips were an insider tool. You had to actually be there to do one, or know someone who was there who would submit one for you.

Then the internet happened.

Now, anyone with access to the internet can go onto the dashboard of Illinois General Assembly website and fill out slips for any bill they like.

Join the Witness Slip Team to let Illinois legislators know whether you support or oppose a bill. The process is simple and makes an impact. Once you join you will receive instructions and periodic emails that will require a quick ( sometimes a few hours) turnaround action.

Urge your US House representative to defend forests from logging

Urge your US House representative to defend forests from logging

From Environment Illinois

For almost 25 years, the Roadless Rule has protected millions of acres of wild forest from road construction, logging and mining.

‍These are the forests where more than 200 threatened and endangered species live, where ancient trees filter drinking water for millions of Americans and where the public can enjoy nature at its wildest.

Right now, the Forest Service is attempting to eradicate protections for these special places. If the protections are repealed, logging trucks and mining equipment could mow down the trees that make these forests so spectacular.

‍‍Our wild forests are too precious to leave unprotected. It's time for Congress to pass the Roadless Area Conservation Act and enshrine the Roadless Rule into law, permanently safeguarding these special places.

‍ ‍Go here to ask your US House Representative for the Roadless Area Conversation Act.‍

Get ICE out of Spotify

From national Indivisible

Spotify is running ads recruiting agents for ICE, the federal agency charged with mass deportation and surveillance of immigrant communities. These ads target vulnerable populations, promise signing bonuses, and normalize fear and intimidation in our neighborhoods.

Spotify claims these ads comply with their policy, but the truth is streaming hate is not neutral. It’s a choice. We refuse to fund it. We refuse to ignore it.

We did it! Keep the momentum growing!

The November 4 election was a massive victory for our democracy. In New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California, and across the country, voters turned out at historic levels to say hell no to the regime. From ballot propositions and school boards to state Supreme Courts and gubernatorial races, the pro-democracy side is winning -- and beating expectations by huge margins.

The wins were powered by thousands of grassroots volunteers who phone banked, doo rknocked , and texted; and dozens of Indivisible groups(like ILS who organized for months to secure this outcome. More than a million voters were contacted in the lead-up to Election Day.

Some folks question if the energy we’ve mobilized in the streets from Hands Off! to No Kings would translate to wave-like energy at the ballot box. Last night’s results prove the answer is yes. But we've got to keep organizing and growing our movement if we want to save our democracy.

Our next big electoral test will be the 2026 midterms and the work to win them starts now.

You can keep the momentum growing by volunteering to:

Plan and strategize our Wisconsin canvassing program

Write postcards to help turn a historically red Tennessee seat to blue

Sign up for the newly formed ILS Rapid Response

Deliver food and necessities to our vulnerable friends and neighbors via 19th District Mutual Aid

Let’s do this!

Once you sign up, you’ll be mailed your free postcards within three days, so you should receive them within about a week or sooner. Included will be a voter list and instructions with three short message options.  You'll have until Nov 17 or Nov 21 to mail the postcards depending on the instructions you receive. As always, you're responsible for providing the Postcard Stamps (currently $0.61).

Nothin’ doing in Washington amid continued shutdown

Make your voice heard as the government shutdown continues:

As the government shutdown enters its fourth week, Republicans are still unwilling to negotiate extension to ACA healthcare subsidies in the budget. On Monday, the Senate failed for the 11th time to advance a House-passed measure to fund the government until Nov. 21.

There are calls you can make to get the ball rolling.

What comes next after the largest single-day protest

Our pro-democracy movement is surging. Now it’s up to each of us to channel this incredible energy into the organizing power it will take to win.

Join us on Tuesday night at 8pm ET/5pm PT for a mass call of movement leaders and activists to discuss what’s next.

Protests serve many purposes -- they change the narrative, they grow our movement, they show people reeling under the weight of the regime’s atrocities that they are not alone.

But a single day of protest -- even the largest single-day protest we’ve seen in our lifetimes -- will not overcome the fascist onslaught we face.

It’s going to take ongoing, strategic organizing -- exactly the kind of organizing Indivisible was created to foster -- to deliver us from tyranny.
