Endorsement Policy (adopted May 16, 2022)

Indivisible Lincoln Square (ILS) will consider endorsing candidates whose position on major political issues is fully consistent with the mission of ILS. Candidates must be able to articulate how they intend to support that mission, as appropriate for the candidate’s office. Candidates seeking ILS endorsement may be personally interviewed, as determined by the ILS Steering Committee.

  •  The ILS Steering Committee may decide to support a candidate running in a primary election or a non-partisan election where there are several candidates (e.g., aldermanic election). Such candidate would require a unanimous vote at an ILS Steering Committee meeting.

  •  The ILS Steering Committee may decide to support a candidate running in a general election or a runoff election where there are only two candidates (e.g., mayoral runoff). Such candidate would require a 2/3rds vote at an ILS Steering Committee meeting.

The result of an ILS endorsement could range from a simple public statement all the way to the commitment of time and effort on the part of ILS members on behalf of that candidate. The ILS Steering Committee should determine the appropriate level of support targets during the campaign.
