“Melt the ICE!” by joining the knitted red hat resistance

Here’s hoping the opposition will be seeing red at anti-authoritarian protests around the country. Knitters throughout the U.S. and beyond have hopped on the bandwagon to create red “Melt the Ice” hats in a sign of protest against ICE immigration raids. Knitters can buy the pattern on the Ravelry knitting community site.

Local knit shop Knit 1, 3856 N. Lincoln, is collecting red hats for distribution through the end of February.

Indivisible Lincoln Square joins group urging Pritzker to opt out of Trump’s school voucher plan

Indivisible Lincoln Square on Jan. 27 joined a statewide coalition of organizations urging Gov. JB Pritzker to oppose the Trump Administration’s plan for a new federal school voucher program.

Civic engagement film “Join or Die” to screen at Sultzer

The words “join or die” were made famous by a Colonial-era political cartoon calling for the American colonies to coalesce in the face of oppression. Fittingly, they are also the title of a 2023 documentary about the importance of community connections based on the work of political scientist Robert Putnam.

WHERE: Sulzer Regional Library, 4455 N. Lincoln Avenue Chicago, IL 60625

WHEN: Saturday, Jan. 31, 1 pm to 3 pm CST
