Unmasking law enforcement: California is first to pass landmark bill
The California legislation was written by San Francisco State Senator Scott Wiener, a Democrat. It would prohibit law enforcement officials from wearing face coverings that hide their identity such as ski masks and balaclavas.
In July, Illinois State Rep. Barbara Hernandez (D-Aurora) filed similar legislation with the Illinois House of Representatives. The Illinois bill may be considered during the fall veto session, according to news reports.
